Not Your Mother's Holiday Cards...
Send email holiday greetings and make tradition, special again.
One of my fondest childhood memories is helping my mother
send out holiday cards. After Thanksgiving dinner, my mother would dust
off the big-book of names and addresses, take out her good felt pen and
the boxes of brand new holiday cards she just bought from the store the
day before. I helped her decide which card went to whom and what the
greeting should say. But my most important job was to lick the stamp and
place it perfectly on the top right corner of the envelope.
It was tradition.
But now that I am older, tradition has become obligation. The mere thought
of Thanksgiving sneaking up on me - and having to find the time in my busy
schedule to write out holiday cards makes my hand start cramping
instantly. In the past, my throat would dry out, but with the advent of
pre-moistened stamps, I merely dread the long lines at the post office.
Don't get me wrong - I love the sentimentality of sending a holiday card.
After all, it's part of my childhood!
So last year, I tried something new. I sent email holiday greetings using
High Impact eMail Holiday Edition. And in my many years of sending holiday
cards (not going to tell you how many!) I have never received more
positive comments and responses from friends, family, colleagues, clients
and other business contacts.
And the best part was that it was easy and flexible. For my friends and
family, I sent an email photo-card greeting with pictures of my kids in
front of the Christmas tree in a festive holiday frame. Everyone loved it
- especially cousins who we hardly ever see except at family weddings.
For my best clients, I sent a long appreciative letter thanking them for
their business. And since typing is much easier on the hand muscles than
handwriting - there was no pain, but much gain! My clients absolutely
loved my holiday greetings letter. They seemed to really appreciate how I
took the time to thoughtfully write a personalized letter with references
to our business experience together. I stood out because I showed my
gratitude instead of sending a card that I quickly signed with a pen that
was running out of ink - and last year, got more business from them
because of it!
And then, there were other business contacts and prospects that I have
lost touch with who I worked with in the earlier part of the year.
Normally I don't send holiday cards to this particular group of people.
For one, holiday cards just seem a little too personal for people I only
worked with once or twice. And for another, I usually have already run out
of cards by the time I even think of sending one. But since emailing
holiday cards is unlimited, I figured why not? So I sent a quick but
festive card simply wishing a "Happy Holiday and Good Luck in the New
Year."

Tip ZONE

Create fun holiday
photo-cards from
your own printer.
Easy
as pumpkin pie, but everyone will
think it was professionally done!
With the Holiday Greetings Template Pack for OfficeReady,
you can make darling holiday greeting cards on your own computer just like
this one. The pictures can actually be in the ornaments and it'll leave them
asking - how'd you do that?
Here's How:

Step 1: Once you have the template open in Microsoft
Word, double-click on a picture socket. You will be asked to find the
picture you would like to use in that socket. Find the picture and choose
open.

Step
2: Your image will open into the OfficeReady Photo Editor. Resize your
image using the sliding bars.
Tip: Since the picture socket is fairly small in
size, try to resize your image so that much of the background is cut out.
Repeat step 1 and 2 for remaining picture sockets.
Step 3: After all images have been set - click on the Move to Back
icon. This will bring the images to the back, bringing the part of the
ornament that comes over the image to the front.
And then you're done! Print on a photo-card for best
results.
If you need to change the image - first click on the Move
to Front icon. This will allow you to double click on the image and the
open picture command will appear as exampled below:

Ask the ZONE Expert
Q: In the OfficeReady photo editor I see an
'enlarge to fit frame' and a 'stretch to fit frame.' What is the
difference between those two, and when should I use these options?
A: 'Enlarge to fit
frame' expands the image while keeping its aspect ratio. This zooms into
the image and crops the image without distortion. You should use this
option when you would not want the image to be distorted in any way - such
as a person's portrait. 'Stretch to fit frame' fits the image to the frame
without keeping its aspect ratio. Depending on the image, the image can be
distorted, but the entire image would be in the frame. Use this option if
distortion is not an issue.
