Business Plans vs. Marketing
Plans
|
Business Plan, Marketing
Plan…
What’s the Difference?
By Michael P. Griffin,
Professor at the Charlton College of Business,
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth
What’s the difference between a business plan and a marketing
plan? For starters, the business plan is a much more comprehensive document.
It is a blue print that lays out how the organization’s mission, goals and
objectives will be accomplished and includes such information as the profile
of the management team, state of the industry, the markets served, product and
service pricing, the operational plan, and financial projections. In addition,
the business plan often includes a summary of the marketing plan. A much more
extensive version of a marketing plan is often prepared for internal purposes.
There is more on marketing plans later in this article.
Business plans have two audiences: an internal one consisting of managers and
employees and an external audience that could be made up of potential
investors and creditors. Let’s first examine the internal uses of a business
plan.
A business plan can serve as a valuable internal management tool that helps
guide employees in the achievement of important company goals. The company
budget is often prepared in light of the business plan. Operational plans such
as strategies for the acquisition of materials and labor are certainly
impacted by the business plan.

Tip ZONE

Do's and Don'ts when editing and saving High Impact eMail templates.
HTML is tricky. It's unintuitive and inflexible. Delete one
thing, and everything goes wrong. And you're left thinking - "what happened?"
Here are 4 ways to avoid mishaps when editing your High Impact
eMail templates.
1. Don't Use Microsoft Word - Microsoft Word is a
"jack-of-all-trades" application, but that doesn't mean it's perfect. Word is
first and foremost a Word Processing tool - not an HTML editor. In fact, Word
doesn't handle HTML code very well and will often alter the format and layout of
HTML files - causing you more grief than it's worth. We recommend using Outlook
and Outlook Express for editing High Impact HTML files.
Here's how to configure your computer so it doesn't use Word
to edit High Impact emails:
1. In Outlook or Outlook Express, go to Tools |
Options
2. Click the Mail Format Tab and uncheck "Use Microsoft Word to edit
e-mail messages"
3. Hit apply and okay.
For more complex HTML editing, we recommend using a real
HTML editor like Dreamweaver or Microsoft FrontPage. Keep in mind: if Word was a
good HTML editor, Microsoft wouldn't have developed FrontPage.
2. Be careful not to delete tags - There is special
HTML code in each template that allows the template to work with High Impact
eMail features such as automatic profiles and ReadyShare. If you delete this
HTML code (also knows as "tags"), High Impact eMail features may not work
properly. We see many customers who attempt to make changes to the HTML code and
inadvertently delete tags - rendering the template useless.
This is why the next tip is so important.
3. Never save over the original template - This is a
cardinal rule that many users don't think of in midst of the excitement of a new
program. When saving, always do a "Save As" rather than a "Save." If you ever
make a mistake, you'll always have the original to go back to.
4. To save it back into High Impact eMail - You can
edit your template in Outlook and Outlook Express and save it as an HTML
template in High Impact eMail. Here's how you do it:
1. After you've edited your template, go to File | Save As
2. Select HTML as the file type (usually defaults)
3. Rename the file
4. Save the image in C Drive | Program Files | KMT Software | High Impact eMail
2.0 | Templates | And then the appropriate folder (Must be put into a folder)
You will find your template in the appropriate folder in the
High Impact eMail browser folder structure.

Ask the ZONE Expert
Q: Can I use the PDF Creator in OfficeReady
Professional 3.0 to convert PDF files back into Word so I can edit it?
A: We had quite a
few readers ask us this question. The answer is no - in order to convert PDF
files to Word, you need some powerful OCR software. Think of PDF files
as a "printed" file - it's basically electronic paper. The software would
need to read the image of a letter and recognize it as a particular
letter.
Fortunately,
our partner, Scansoft's OmniPage Pro 12 can convert PDFs into Word
Documents you can edit. Their award-winning OCR software will convert the
curve of the "s" to be an "s" you can edit. PDF to Word conversion is only
one of the many features in OmniPage Pro 12. You can also scan paper and turn
them into documents you can edit and create searchable PDF files.
We've
convinced them to give our readers a special offer. OmniPage Pro 12 for
$99.99. The regular price for this is $599.99! You can also get Dragon
Naturally Speaking 6 for FREE, a $60 value!

3 Good Reasons to use iCleanTM
How to erase your tracks on the Internet and boost your PC performance
You probably know that your computer tracks your online and offline activities,
placing your privacy at risk. Cookies trace your actions on the Internet,
browser bars show web site addresses you've visited, "Recent Documents" lists
record your work, and more.
At our office and at home, we have been using a new
product called iClean - this product protects your privacy by helping you
prevent or stop activity tracking. iClean is easy to use. Just check a few boxes
and your Internet tracks are erased, space-wasting files are tossed to boost
performance, and pop-ups are blocked!
There are 3 very good reasons to use iCleanTM
1. Privacy protection
Online privacy
Privacy watchdog groups, like Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), and consumer
advocates sites, such as www.privacyrights.org urge Internet users to use cookie
management software to help protect their online privacy. iClean was designed to
make cookie management simple and effective. The intuitive interface makes it
easy to to take control of who may leave cookies on your computer and who may
not.
Offline privacy
iClean provides many tools to erase computer records of your activities. Quickly
clear "Recent Documents" and Windows temp files with a single click. Secure
Delete, the digital document shredder feature, gets rid of unwanted Internet
files for good.
2. Boost PC Performance
Cache, history, temp, and other files can build up without you knowing it.
Not only does this build up leave evidence of your activities, it slows down the
computer. Purge these files instantly with iClean to regain disk space and boost
PC performance.
3.Block pop-ups
iClean is compatible with all popular browsers and has an easy-to-use interface.
With a simple click, you can stop annoying pop-ups and put the fun back into web
surfing.
And finally the best reason of all - we personally know the folks at Aladdin and
they have offered our newsletter readers a 33% off their product - you can now
get it for just $19.95.
